If there’s coffee involved, i’m going to be all in facilitating the production of a good cup of coffee. I can’t make a decent cup of coffee if my life depended on it. My hubby is the coffee maker in the family, he fancies himself a distant cousin of a Barista or was one in another life. I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is cleaning up the coffee grounds that spread across my countertops and of course the damage to my countertop due to tamping the portafilter directly on it without any protection. I’m waiting for my new countertop installations and of course, hindsight is 20/20, so i’m doing everything possible to protect them from scratches and getting into a new habit so our new ones won’t get damaged by everyday use. I saw this tampering mat by sheer chance and the design called my attention. It sits right on the edge of the counter and the material provides stability so that it doesn’t slide around when it’s being used. I love it because of the functionality and my husband loves it because it gives him a level tamp, which makes for a better extraction and the end result is a better cup of coffee. It is super easy to clean, just run it under water to clean any spilled coffee grounds, dry it and use it again. It doesn’t need any special storage, I keep mine on the counter edge all the time.
